I love this pic.

I've been playing with a pretty neat flash photo album that integrates with Flickr - check it out here.

Elliot's Dream

Elliot's Dream
Originally uploaded by lisaremi.

Our dear, dear friend Lisa Remillard gave us a framed print of this photo at Elliot's baby shower. It's the first thing we put up to decorate his bedroom. She's the type of person who makes herself available (she's always outdoors) to see and photograph beautiful sites like this.

Elliot will be a month old on Saturday. Time is really flying.

"... the building stands, the car now runs, the lights are on"

Here's a great article on the social devaluation of trades or "blue collar" work in favor of training "knowledge workers".

No more English, once I am done speaking.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ordered government and cultural bodies to use modified Persian words to replace foreign words that have crept into the language, such as “pizzas,” which will now be known as “elastic loaves.” - Associated Press.
A very funny rant by someone channeling
Ahmadinejad on his "glorious linguistic jihad", via The New Yorker.

Part of today's Social Studies section of the Globe and Mail (I thought Lex in particular might appreciate this):

Let's climb trees

Tens of thousands of people have tried recreational tree-climbing in the past decade or so, reports The Boston Globe. There are nearly a dozen U.S. schools that teach the activity. Although it may sound risky, tree-climbing is safe with no recorded deaths or serious injuries in 23 years, adds Genevieve Summers, a former chimney sweep and now one of the leading American tree-climbing instructors. She runs a treetop bed & breakfast in Georgia. She notes:

Pros. "Climbers can get 'bark bites,' which are scratches from brushing up against the trees. But I tell my students they haven't had a good climb unless they have bark in their underwear!"

Cons. Sleeping in trees can be unsettling "I won't say you're going to get the best night's sleep," said Ms. Summers, 55. "The moon may be rising or you may hear owl calls and all sorts of unfamiliar sounds."

Not that we're going to climb any trees at the moment - did I mention that Lex is 10 months pregnant? - but probably next summer.

We thought this was a sizable belly at the time. This was at 6 months. On Lex's birthday (May 19). It gets bigger.

Count yourself as blessed if she takes your picture. Just look at the tude she dug out of us!

Wow. It's been a while, hasn't it? Like - over three years right? Dude. A lot can happen in three years. Look! I turned into a dog!

Actually, there's a photographic record of the last year or so at these spots, so check em out:

Maybe we'll keep posting here - and maybe not. We'll see. Nice to read the old stuff though and see what crazy nut jobs we were in our youths. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Props to Lisa W. with her new badassed blog: touchofcolor. And the venerable David Lane at Porchlight Paintings. Ahhhh - art!
